From Vision to Fund: GCA Secures Grant to Lead Common Good Cyber

The Internet Society Foundation has announced the launch of the Common Good Cyber Fund, a new grant program to strengthen nonprofit organizations that secure the Internet’s core infrastructure, effectively improve resilience, and safeguard vulnerable users. We are proud to share that as part of this inaugural cohort, the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) has been awarded one of the first pilot grants of USD $300,000.

A Milestone for Common Good Cyber — and for GCA

The grant will support GCA in three critical roles:

This investment recognizes the foundational role GCA has played in building Common Good Cyber from the ground up and our operational leadership in continuing the work.

Common Good Cyber did not emerge by accident. It was conceived, designed, and championed by GCA as a practical solution to a persistent structural problem: organizations that quietly safeguard the Internet’s functioning and defend vulnerable communities often struggle to secure sustainable funding.

From Concept to Global Fund

GCA articulated the case for treating cybersecurity as a shared global responsibility, a true “common good.” We convened partners, shaped the framework, and helped build the governance model that underpins today’s Fund.

The Common Good Cyber Fund is implemented by the Internet Society Foundation on behalf of the Internet Society, in close collaboration with the Common Good Cyber Ecosystem Committee and a Strategic Advisory Committee.

Ecosystem Committee members are:

This coalition reflects years of relationship-building and industry leadership. GCA’s role as Ecosystem Manager ensures that Common Good Cyber remains coordinated, strategically aligned, and focused on measurable impact across infrastructure protection and civil society defense.

Strengthening Our Work

The grant also provides general operating support for GCA’s Internet Integrity and Capacity & Resilience programs, two mutually reinforcing fronts that lead to a more secure Internet.

First, we help people and organizations reduce online risk by delivering cybersecurity at global scale. Through automation and AI, we are expanding the reach of proven, practical tools so more users can protect themselves faster, with fewer technical or financial barriers. This work directly supports a stronger digital economy by making digital services safer and more accessible.

Second, we address cyber risk at its source by working with Internet infrastructure actors on systemic solutions. By strengthening trust in the domain name ecosystem, disrupting malicious and unwanted traffic, and improving routing security, we reduce the channels cybercriminals rely on to operate. These efforts protect the underlying infrastructure that enables communications, commerce, and economic growth.

These programs reflect the same principle that underlies Common Good Cyber: prevention at global scale is both more efficient and more equitable than remediation after harm is done.

GCA led the effort to create Common Good Cyber and we are pleased to collaborate with the Internet Society Foundation on this critical initiative. We are deeply proud to see the Fund officially launched, and to continue serving as its Ecosystem Manager and Strategic Advisory Committee Chair. This grant enables us to steward the ecosystem we helped create and to accelerate work that protects the Internet as a shared global resource.
