Philip Reitinger has announced his retirement as President and CEO of the Global Cyber Alliance effective September 15, 2025.

Chief Operating Officer Brian Cute will act as Interim CEO. Cute has served as GCA’s COO since 2022 and brings more than 25 years of experience in Internet policy, technology, and nonprofit leadership.

GCA’s founding CEO, Reitinger’s extraordinary skill and experience have built the organization into the global powerhouse it is today. His vision guided GCA through multiple high-impact initiatives including improving email security by advocating for DMARC, launching Quad9 to block malicious websites for everyday Internet users, developing five versions of the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkits, tackling systemic Internet integrity problems like unwanted traffic, domain name abuse, and routing security, and, most recently, leading the Common Good Cyber charge to sustainably fund cybersecurity-focused nonprofits.

Reitinger will continue advising GCA on issues related to Common Good Cyber and remain an influential voice in its work.

“After ten years of dedicated leadership at the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA), Philip Reitinger’s retirement marks both a well-earned milestone and a bittersweet moment for the organization. Under his stewardship, GCA has grown into an internationally recognized and well-respected force in cybersecurity — one well-equipped to continue advancing its critical mission. Phil’s unwavering commitment to global cybersecurity, uniting communities around the world to tackle cyber risks at their core, leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to shape our efforts worldwide,” said William Pelgrin, Chair of the GCA Board. “The Board is fully committed to ensuring a smooth leadership transition and to supporting GCA’s continued success. We are deeply grateful for Phil’s exceptional contributions and are pleased that he will remain engaged through his continued leadership of the Common Good Cyber initiatives. The GCA Board warmly welcomes Brian Cute as Interim CEO. Brian’s tenure with GCA as Chief Operating Officer and Director of the Capacity & Resilience Program, along with his prior CEO experience, makes him exceptionally well suited to guide GCA into its next chapter,” said Will Pelgrin, GCA Board Chair.

“Phil leaves an extraordinary legacy and big shoes to fill. I’m honored to step into this role and help lead the Global Cyber Alliance into its next chapter. Thanks to Phil’s leadership, we have a clear mission, a unifying vision, and a strong foundation. Together, we will build on that momentum to strengthen our impact and advance GCA’s critical role in securing the future of the Internet,” said Brian Cute, GCA Chief Operating Officer and Interim CEO.

“I am immensely proud of the work we’ve done together over the last ten years. It has been an honor. Thank you for the opportunity to lead the hardworking Global Cyber Alliance staff, with guidance from our esteemed Board of Directors and wise counsel and excellent insights from our Strategic Advisors and Ambassadors. I look forward to working with Brian Cute in his transition to Interim CEO as GCA continues its vital work,” said Reitinger.
