Addressing Unwanted Internet Traffic on the APNIC Ping Podcast

There is a constant buzz in the Internet— the noise caused by unwanted network traffic. This is a systemic risk to the Internet, carrying most of the attacks that threaten our everyday lives as Internet users, from phishing attacks to ransomware.

“There’s an open question about who’s going to do anything about [unwanted Internet traffic]. The people who really need to act are the ones who are running the networks,” says Leslie Daigle, Chief Technical Officer of the Global Cyber Alliance.

In this episode of APNIC’s PING Podcast, join Leslie and host George Michaelson as they discuss unwanted Internet traffic, GCA’s measurement work to examine that traffic through the new Internet Pollution Index, and the approaches we can take to tackle it. “Stopping [bad traffic] at source will have considerable impact in reducing the problem space.”
