Global Cyber Alliance and Free Press Unlimited Join Forces to Bring Free Training and Tools to Journalists
The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) is delighted to announce its partnership with Free Press Unlimited (FPU). Free Press Unlimited considers safety an all-embracing concept that includes the physical, psycho-social, digital, and legal domains equally. FPU believes that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions to the safety challenges that journalists face as they vary depending on the context, so the solutions will differ as well. FPU’s approach to keep journalists safe is based on three pillars: prevention, protection, and prosecution.
FPU works on prevention by making journalists more resilient to online attacks as well as giving them the skills to conduct their work with confidence. In collaboration with Greenhost, FPU therefore developed the Totem project: an online learning platform that offers educational courses about digital security and privacy, and related tools and tactics for journalists, activists and human rights defenders. On this platform, they can learn how to apply tools and tactics for digital safety and privacy in their work. Totem offers a range of free courses on topics such as phishing attacks and secure messaging apps. They can be accessed anywhere and are offered in English, Spanish, Persian, French, and Arabic on https://totem-project.org.
GCA now offers the Totem Project Courses, accessible through the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Journalists homepage: https://gcatoolkit.org/journalists/. Additionally, GCA highlights specific courses as resources within the toolkit’s seven toolboxes. On May 20th at 11:00 – 11:45 am EDT (17:00 – 17:45 pm CET), FPU and GCA will co-host Office Hours to address questions about Totem Courses and the Toolkit.
