Barry has been a leading figure in the travel industry’s fight against economic criminals since the late 1990’s and is the founder of Prevention of Fraud in Travel; the travel industry’s counter crime body. As well as successfully obtaining police action in many cases of fraud and identity theft, initiating MPS Operations Chilton and Neon and supporting MPS Operation Falcon, Barry is responsible for the introduction of best practice as well as guides to the industry which have helped reduce the instances of crime occurring.
Barry has previously worked in enforcement and was the head of legal compliance and latterly company secretary at the Teletext group of companies (the world’s largest Public Service Text provider at that time) for around 14 years.
Barry was on the board of the Advertising Association’s ‘Self-Regulation Task Force’ which successfully persuaded government to permit self-regulation of broadcast advertising and was a director of BCAP, the Advertising Standards Association’s broadcast policymaking body where he was on the team that harmonised the advertising codes.
