Before I came to GCA I held a variety of industry positions including software developer, engineering manager, researcher, and managing director. I worked for a global not-for-profit and founded a not-for-profit to build open source secure hardware and software.
What is your role at GCA?
I am the Director of Technology. I believe that means that I am constantly scanning the landscape for innovation in technologies related to what GCA does and assessing when those innovations might have a positive impact on what we do and how we might be able to incorporate them. Then I work with the product owners and development team to make a serious evaluation of the concrete potential for their use.
What brought you to GCA and what does GCA’s mission mean to you?
Cybersecurity seems to be one of the Really Big Challenges that emerges from the influence of the Internet on society. Working at a place that has a role in addressing that challenge is energizing. Seeing some success in addressing some of those challenges is rewarding.
What do you like best about working at GCA?
The ability to do a little bit of everything. While I have a specific role, I find myself working with others to help them accomplish their goals in a lot of different ways: fundraising, outreach, planning, assessing, establishing business trajectories, etc.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I seem to find a new favorite thing every year. The latest has been vegetable gardening with my wife in our suburban backyard. We’ve been surprised how much joy we have from this simple activity.
